Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The Houston Texans are trading veteran cornerback Bradley Roby to the New Orleans Saints.

League sources told ESPN and NFL Media on Wednesday that New Orleans is in the process of acquiring Roby from the Texans. Terms of the agreement haven't been disclosed.

Roby is set to earn $10 million in salary and bonuses this season in the second year of a three-year, $31.5 million extension that he signed with the Texans in April 2020.

The 29-year-old Roby, however, will miss the first game of the season as part of a six-game suspension that began in 2020 for a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The Denver Broncos selected Roby in the first round of the 2014 draft out of Ohio State. After five years in Denver, he spent the past two seasons with the Texans.

Roby has recorded 311 total tackles, 10 interceptions, 75 passes defensed, four sacks, eight forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries over 99 career games with the Broncos and Texans.

Earlier this week, the secondary-needy Saints signed veteran cornerback Desmond Trufant to compete for the No. 2 starting job across from Pro Bowler Marshon Lattimore. Roby is expected to be the front-runner to secure that position after his suspension.

After agreeing to trade Roby, the Texans now have six cornerbacks on their roster: Desmond King; Terrance Mitchell; Vernon Hargreaves; Tremon Smith; Tavierre Thomas and Jimmy Moreland.
