Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The Baltimore Ravens are signing three-time Pro Bowl running back Le'Veon Bell to their practice squad.

ESPN and NFL Media reported the signing Tuesday night, with the outlets noting that Baltimore likely will elevate Bell to its 53-man roster in the near future. The Ravens have yet to confirm the agreement.

The pending addition of Bell comes after the Ravens lost third-string tailback Justice Hill to a season-ending Achilles injury last week. Baltimore had already lost starting running back J.K. Dobbins, who suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during the team's preseason finale.

Bell, who had a workout with the Ravens on Monday, provides veteran experience and pass-catching ability behind starter Gus Edwards and current backup Ty'Son Williams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Bell in the second round of the 2013 draft out of Michigan State. He spent his first five years in Pittsburgh -- gaining over 1,000 yards in three of those seasons -- before sitting out the 2018 season.

Since that 2018 holdout, Bell hasn't been the same playmaker. Last season, he totaled just 328 rushing yards and two touchdowns with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs.

In 88 career games (81 starts) between the Steelers, Jets and Chiefs, Bell has recorded 6,453 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns. He has added 394 catches for 3,259 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
