Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The New England Patriots acquired rookie cornerback Shaun Wade in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced Thursday.

League sources told ESPN and NFL Media that Baltimore received a 2022 seventh-round draft pick and a 2023 fifth-rounder in exchange for Wade. The seventh-round selection in the deal is the one that New England acquired from the Houston Texans for tight end Ryan Izzo.

The Patriots later confirmed the agreement, but the team didn't disclose terms of the trade.

The Ravens selected Wade in the fifth round of this year's draft out of Ohio State. The former Buckeyes cornerback, however, wasn't expected to make the team's 53-man roster next week after Chris Westry passed him on the depth chart.

Baltimore opted to receive a pair of draft picks for Wade because the club believed he wouldn't clear waivers and make it to its practice squad.

The Patriots have been thin at the cornerback position in training camp, with No. 1 option and 2019 Defensive Player of the Year winner Stephon Gilmore (quad) still on the physically unable to perform list. The All-Pro defensive back also has expressed the desire for a new contract.

Without Gilmore, the Patriots have had J.C. Jackson and Jalen Mills as the starters, with Jonathan Jones -- who has been in and out of practice over the last week -- at the nickel spot. Joejuan Williams is next on the team's depth chart.
