Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald remains uncertain about his NFL playing future, saying he currently doesn't have a desire to return to the field.

During an interview on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio on Friday, the 11-time Pro Bowl wideout was asked whether he was going to be a radio broadcaster or compete in the NFL again.

"For now, I'll be a radio broadcaster," said Fitzgerald, who appears on the show with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Jim Gray. "To be honest with you, I just don't have the urge to play right now. I don't know how I'll feel in September, October, November moving forward, but today, I just don't have the urge.

"And I think I have to be respectful of that. Football is not one of those games you want to walk out there and play and not be fully engaged and ready to prepare and do the things necessary that you need to do."

Fitzgerald became an unrestricted free agent earlier this year after 17 seasons with the Cardinals, who drafted him with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2004 draft. He sits second on the NFL's all-time receiving yards and receptions list behind Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice.

Fitzgerald's status for the 2021 campaign has been discussed frequently at the Cardinals' training camp. Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury previously said the "ball's in his court" and that Arizona will have a plan established if the All-Pro wideout opts to return for an 18th season.
