Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Elite football players will compete virtually in a unique 2021 NFL Pro Bowl on Sunday in one of this weekend's most intriguing sports events. College prospects will showcase their skills Saturday in the Senior Bowl.

Dozens of NHL, NBA and college basketball regular-season contests also fill the weekend slate from Friday night through Sunday. And many of the world's best golfers are competing in the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines' South Course in La Jolla, Calif.

The NFL's Pro Bowl will be held in a virtual fashion this year because of the coronavirus pandemic. Rapper Snoop Dogg, Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry will be among the competitors to control the teams Sunday on the Madden NFL 21 video game.

The game will stream at 5 p.m. EST on the NFL's YouTube, Twitter and Facebook channels. It also will air on the EA Madden NFL Twitch account.

Former NFL wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch and NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace also will control the teams for the event.

NBA matchups

Superstars will flood the court for some great NBA matchups this weekend. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics host LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the reigning champion Los Angeles Lakers in one of the best matchups.

The Lakers and Celtics tip-off at 8:30 p.m. EST Saturday on ABC.

ESPN will televise two primetime matchups Friday night. Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans host Giannis Antetokounmpo's Milwaukee Bucks in the first game at 7:30 p.m. EST. The network will then air a game between Luka Doncic's Dallas Mavericks and Donovan Mitchell's Utah Jazz at 10 p.m.

The Brooklyn Nets' new 'Big 3' of Kyrie Irving, James Harden and Kevin Durant will face Bradley Beal, Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards at 7 p.m. EST Sunday on NBATV.

Senior Bowl

Many of the best college football players in the country will be in action for the 2021 Senior Bowl on Saturday in Mobile, Ala. The annual All-Star game gives NFL teams a chance to evaluate prospects after the college football season and before the NFL Draft.

The 2021 Senior Bowl airs at 2:30 p.m. EST on NFL Network.

The National Team, led by Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores, features projected first-round picks in Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith and running back Najee Harris, and Washington defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike.

Smith will not participate in the game, but is still in attendance for meetings and interviews with NFL personnel.

The American Team, led by Carolina Panthers coach Matt Rhule, features projected first-round picks in Alabama quarterback Mac Jones and offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, and Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney.
