Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning is expected to be under center for the New York Giants' matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur told reporters Wednesday that Manning is "very likely" to start on Monday Night Football in place of Daniel Jones, who is dealing with a "moderate high ankle sprain."

Jones, who took over for Manning as the Giants' starting quarterback after two games, played through the ankle injury during Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers. The rookie signal-caller was in a boot and didn't practice Wednesday.

In 11 games this season, Jones completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 2,374 yards, 18 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He added 39 carries for 241 yards with two touchdowns and 10 lost fumbles.

Manning will return to the starting lineup with the Giants on an eight-game winless streak. It will be his first start since mid-September after serving as New York's franchise quarterback for the past 15 seasons.

"I've missed being part of the action," Manning told reporters Wednesday. "It felt good to be out there today [at practice]. I hadn't thought about playing in a game, just taking it one game at a time, not making any decisions about the future while living in the present.

"I talked to the coaches [Tuesday] and they said to be ready. I've been preparing to go."

Manning has completed 56-of-89 throws for 556 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions this season. His last win as a starter came against the Washington Redskins last Dec. 9.
