Cincinnati Bengals dominate New York Jets in Andy Dalton's return

Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Back from a three-week absence, veteran quarterback Andy Dalton ended the Cincinnati Bengals' longest losing streak in franchise history with a 22-6 win over the New York Jets on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Dalton, who was benched three weeks ago after the Bengals' (1-11) eighth loss of the season, completed 22-of-37 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown in his return to the starting lineup. He handed Zac Taylor his first win as a head coach in the NFL and set two Bengals passing records during the victory.

"This one's very satisfying with everything I've gone through this year," Dalton told reporters. "To be the record-breaker today, being the first one after not playing the last three weeks, this one means a lot."

The Bengals grabbed a 7-3 lead in the first quarter when Dalton found wide receiver Tyler Boyd for a 17-yard touchdown. The score made Dalton the team's career leader in passing touchdowns, moving him ahead of Ken Anderson (198). He also passed Anderson for the franchise's career completion mark.

Bengals tailback Joe Mixon had a 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give Cincinnati a 17-6 lead at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, Jets left tackle Kelvin Beachum was called for holding in the end zone, resulting in a safety. Randy Bullock added a 47-yard field goal to seal the Bengals' victory.

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold completed 28-of-48 throws for 239 yards. Robby Anderson recorded seven receptions for 101 yards.

Le'Veon Bell ran for 32 yards on 10 carries, adding four catches for 35 yards. Sam Ficken booted a 42-yard kick and a 39-yard field goal for the Jets' (4-8) only points.

The Bengals will play the Cleveland Browns on the road next week. The Jets will host the Miami Dolphins next Sunday.
