May 24 (UPI) -- The season has yet to start, but NFC North rivals Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers are already in a battle ... of beer chugging.

Stafford one-upped the Green Bay Packers quarterback Thursday after Rodgers was seen chugging a beer during the Toronto Raptors' win against the Milwaukee Bucks that day in Milwaukee. Rodgers was one of several athletes who got involved in the beverage-chugging antics.

Packers offensive lineman David Bakhtiari and Milwaukee Brewers star Christian Yelich also attended Thursday's Eastern Conference finals matchup. Bakhtiari had no double slamming several beverages, while Yelich got the crowd going by chugging one himself.

Rodgers had a bit of trouble getting his drink to go down. The Packers quarterback drank most of the beer, before giving up on the chug and saluting the cheering crowd.

Stafford noticed the poor effort from his division rival and took aim at the Packers star. The Detroit Lions gunslinger was at a restaurant with his wife, Kelly Stafford, and others who were watching the basketball game at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach, Fla.

Stafford picked up a full glass of beer and chugged it in about 4 seconds.

"#KingoftheNorth," Kelly Stafford wrote for the caption on his Instagram post of the chug.

Stafford, 31, completed 66.1 percent of his throws for 3,777 yards, 21 scores and 11 interceptions in 16 starts last season for the Lions. Rodgers, 35, completed 62.3 percent of his throws for 4,442 yards, 25 scores and two interceptions in 16 starts last season for the Packers.

The Packers beat the Lions twice in 2018, but Stafford is 1-0 in chugging against Rodgers.
