Former Bills, Raiders QB EJ Manuel retires from NFL

May 14 (UPI) -- EJ Manuel's NFL tenure has officially come to an end with the former first-round pick announcing his retirement.

Manuel's name was listed with a reserve/retired designation on the NFL's official transactions list. The No. 16 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft spent his first four seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He played the 2017 season with the Oakland Raiders.

Manuel, 29, spent the 2018 season out of the league and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs this off-season. He completed 55.8 percent of his throws for 265 yards, one score and one interception in two games in 2017 for Oakland.

The Florida State product completed 58.1 percent of his throws for 3,767 yards, 20 scores and 16 interceptions in 30 career NFL appearances.

The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes, Chad Henne, Chase Litton, Kyle Shurmur and T.J. Linta on the depth chart at quarterback entering OTAs.
