Cam Newton sends signed jersey to young Carolina Panthers fan

Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Quarterback Cam Newton granted the wish of a young Carolina Panthers fan with a signed jersey.

A six-year-old named Robbie received an unsigned Newton jersey as a Christmas present and thought the gift was from the Panthers star.

"Thank you, Cam Newton," Robbie said in the video while jumping up and down. "Go Cam Newton and the Panthers."

Robbie's aunt, Jordan, filmed the unwrapping and hoped to garner the attention of Newton after her nephew's reaction went viral.

"Hello everyone this is my 6 year old nephew Robbie Rooks, he received a jersey and he thinks Cam Newton sent it to him," she wrote on Twitter. "I would like to make his imagination come true, so if you could please [retweet] hoping that Cam can see this and possibly give his little fan a signed jersey."

It didn't take long for Newton and the official Panthers Twitter account to notice the video.

"Santa Cam saw it and is hooking ya up with a new one," the Panthers account said in a tweet that contained a picture of Newton holding up a signed jersey.

Newton's gracious act toward Robbie and other young Panthers fans is nothing new since entering the league in 2011. The quarterback's traditional touchdown celebration includes gifting the football to children in the front row at Bank of America Stadium.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound quarterback was shut down prior to the Panthers' defeat against the Atlanta Falcons last week. Newton will also miss the regular-season finale due to soreness in his right throwing shoulder.

Newton finished his season with 3,395 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 320-of-471 pass attempts. He added 488 rushing yards on 101 attempts with four more scores.

The Panthers (6-9) are eliminated from playoff contention ahead of a matchup against the New Orleans Saints (13-2) on Dec. 30.
