Charlie Weis interested in return to NFL as offensive coordinator

Charlie Weis told ESPN this weekend that he is interested in becoming an offensive coordinator in the NFL again.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Weis "would be interested" if the right situation were to become available.

Weis has not coached in the league since he was the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator in 2010.

The 62-year-old Weis said he has his wife's blessing to pursue the potential opportunity.

Weis has worked as a television analyst and on Sirius Radio this past year. He previously worked as an offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots and New York Jets, in addition to being a head coach at Notre Dame and Kansas.

The NFL coaching landscape is expected to change in the coming weeks, with several coaches likely receiving pink slips.

The Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jets are among the teams rumored to be contemplating a coaching change. In addition, the Cleveland Browns dumped Hue Jackson after their Week 8 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers fired Mike McCarthy after Week 13.

Weis hasn't walked the sideline since Kansas fired him as its head coach in 2014. He posted a 6-22 record with the Jayhawks.

He was head coach at Notre Dame from 2005-09 after arriving from the Patriots (2000-04). The Fighting Irish went 35-27 under his watch, albeit with just 16 wins in the final three seasons.

Weis was offensive coordinator of the Chiefs (2010) and Florida Gators (2011) before getting hired by Kansas in 2012.
