Minnesota Vikings fire OC John DeFilippo

Dec. 11 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Vikings have fired offensive coordinator John DeFilippo.

Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski has been promoted to interim offensive coordinator and will have play-calling duties. The Vikings announced the moves on Tuesday, following Monday's 21-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

DeFilippo, 40, was hired last offseason as the Vikings' offensive coordinator after helping the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl victory as the team's quarterbacks coach. DeFilippo held that role in Philadelphia for two seasons.

He entered the league in 2005 in offensive quality control with the New York Giants before being hired as the Oakland Raiders' quarterbacks coach in 2007. DeFilippo then joined the New York Jets in 2009 in the same capacity, before moving back into the college ranks in 2010 as the San Jose State quarterbacks coach.

DeFilippo returned to the Raiders sideline as quarterbacks coach from 2012 through 2014, before becoming the offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns in 2015.

The Vikings rank 30th in rushing yards per game and rank 20th in points per game.

Minnesota hosts the Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
