Oakland Raiders fire GM Reggie McKenzie

Dec. 10 (UPI) -- The Oakland Raiders have fired general manager Reggie McKenzie.

Sources told NFL Network that McKenzie told his scouts that he was fired on Monday during a meeting. He was offered the opportunity to remain with the franchise through the 2018 season, but is not expected to do so.

McKenzie, 55, played four of his five NFL seasons for the Raiders. He became the Raiders' general manager in 2012. Oakland posted a 39-70 record during his seven seasons, making the playoffs once.'

He previously worked as a scout and in other roles in the Green Bay Packers' front office, before becoming the team's director of football operations.

The Raiders have had a tumultuous downfall since posting a 12-4 record and making the playoffs in 2016. Oakland was 6-10 last season and traded away star Khalil Mack in the offseason and sent wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys in October.

Oakland (3-10) is in last place in the AFC West. The Raiders upset the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-21 on Sunday in Oakland.

The Raiders battle the Cincinnati Bengals at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.
