Giants rule out Beckham vs. Redskins

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. will not play in Sunday's matchup against the Washington Redskins.

Beckham was ruled out of the contest by the Giants on Saturday due to a quadriceps injury that cropped up in Friday's practice. The team announced the mercurial wideout would not make the trip to Washington.

He practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday but was limited Friday and Saturday, when the determination was made to keep him out of Sunday's matchup.

Limited to four games last season due to a fractured ankle, Beckham reached 1,000 yards receiving for the fourth time in five years. He has 77 receptions for 1,052 yards and six touchdowns for New York (4-8), which remains mathematically alive for a playoff berth.

Beckham signed a five-year contract extension worth $95 million, including $65 million guaranteed, in late August.

A first-round pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft, Beckham had at least 90 catches and 1,300 yards in each of his first three seasons with New York. He also had double-digit touchdowns in each of those seasons, including a career-best 13 in 2015.

Beckham reached 200 receptions and 3,000 receiving yards in just 30 games, getting to those milestones faster than anyone in NFL history.

In four games last season, Beckham had 25 receptions for 302 yards and three touchdowns before suffering an injury that required surgery.
