Titans lose TE Jonnu Smith for the season

Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Lost in the celebration of Derrick Henry's huge run vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars was an injury to tight end Jonnu Smith, who will miss the rest of the season.

A source told ESPN on Friday that the Tennessee Titans pass catcher will miss the remainder of the 2018 season due to an MCL injury.

"God got me. I'll be good," Smith said in a text message to ESPN.

Smith suffered the knee injury midway through the second quarter. He was blocking and helped spring Henry for a 99-yard touchdown, tying the record for the longest scoring run in NFL history.

"I care about every one of them," Titans coach Mike Vrabel told reporters. "Nobody that I would say would be above Jonnu. You see how hard he works, how much he cares and the improvement that he makes, and how much it means to him. So, hopefully when I finish up here I can find out what the extent of it is, and we'll go from there."

Vrabel did not have an update on Smith on Friday.

Smith, 23, was a third round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 248-pound tight end did not make a catch on Thursday. He finished his 2018 campaign with 258 yards and three touchdowns on 20 receptions in 13 games.
