Redskins' Adrian Peterson erupts for career-long 90 yard TD run

Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson out-sprinted the entire Philadelphia Eagles defense for a 90-yard touchdown run on Monday Night Football.

The run came in the second quarter of the Eagles' 28-13 victory at Lincoln Financial Field. Despite the career-long run, Peterson ended the game with 98 rushing yards.

Washington lined up for a 1st and 10 on its own 10-yard-line during the sequence. Redskins quarterback Mark Sanchez took the snap and turned right to hand the ball to Peterson on the play. The 33-year-old wrapped up the ball and went to his right, before slashing toward the middle of the field. Peterson then blasted between the hashmarks, putting a juke move on two Eagles defenders.

He then outpaced several more would-be-tacklers and shot up through a hole in the secondary. Peterson ran untouched for the final 75 yards of his scoring run.

"As the play developed, I saw the rotation and the blitz coming off to the right side, and I knew I wanted to be patient and press it and see what presented itself," Peterson told reporters. "I kind of predetermined that it would be the cut-back or just straight ahead."

"For me, once I took my steps, it was about being patient and then seeing how it developed. [Redskins LT] Trent [Williams] and [Redskins LG Jonathan] Cooper, they did a great job backside sealing it off. I was just able to bounce around and once I broke free from the one tackle, it was lights out in my eyes."

Peterson is now tied with Jim Brown at 106 career rushing touchdowns, the fifth-most in NFL history.

"He just busted through," Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said. "That's just AP. He saw light and he was gone."

Peterson has 856 yards and seven scores on 192 carries this season and is averaging 4.5 yards per carry, his highest total since 2015 and 2013 (4.5). The seven-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time All-Pro ranks No. 9 all-time in rushing yards. His 90-yard run was the third-longest jaunt of the 2018 NFL season, trailing only Lamar Miller's 97-yard run and Nick Chubb's 92-yard sprint.
