Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is finished for the season and will be placed on injured reserve with a foot injury, the Charlotte Observer reported Tuesday.

This is not a surprise since Olsen had said earlier that he believed his season was over after he tore the plantar fascia in his right foot in Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It is the same foot that has caused him trouble before.

Olsen missed nine games last year with a Jones fracture in his right foot, and he missed three games early this season with the same problem in his right foot.

He decided not to have surgery earlier this season, but the foot has let him down again.

Before his foot problems, Olsen had been one of the most durable players in the league, going nearly 10 years without missing a game.

He is the first tight end to record three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons, doing that in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He was named to the Pro Bowl all three years.

He had just 17 receptions for 191 yards last season when he played in seven games, and he recorded 27 catches for 291 yards and four touchdowns in nine games this season.

Olsen, 33, signed a contract extension last April that goes through the 2020 season, and it is unclear what Olsen's future holds.
