The Kansas City Chiefs will welcome the return of a familiar name to their backfield, according to a published report Monday.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs are expected to sign running back Charcandrick West. The 27-year-old West will join former teammate Spencer Ware in the backfield as the Chiefs attempt to move on from Kareem Hunt, who was released by the club on Friday after a video showed him pushing and kicking a woman in February.

West, who was signed and quickly released by the New York Jets this season, worked out for the Chiefs on Monday with fellow running back C.J. Anderson.

The 5-foot-10, 205-pound West initially signed with Kansas City as an unrestricted free agent in 2014 and rushed for 999 yards on 266 carries in four seasons with the club. He was released by the team in August.

An undrafted free agent out of Abilene Christian in 2014, West had his best season with Kansas City in 2015. He led the team in rushing with 634 yards and four touchdowns to go along with 20 receptions and a score in 15 games.

Ware served as the lead back in Sunday's 40-33 road win over the Oakland Raiders. The 27-year-old rushed 14 times for 47 yards and a touchdown for the Chiefs (10-2), who host the Baltimore Ravens (7-5) on Sunday (1 p.m. ET).
