Bucs WR Jackson seeks second opinion on thumb

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson is seeking a second opinion on his nagging thumb injury.

Jackson had his injury examined by a local specialist before heading to New York to receive a second opinion, coach Dirk Koetter said, via the Tampa Bay Times.

The 31-year-old Jackson had a brace on his left hand during practice last week, but still managed to play 36 snaps in Sunday's 27-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers. The three-time Pro Bowl selection finished with three catches for 19 yards despite being targeted eight times.

"The thing with DeSean (Sunday) is we just flat missed him five times," Koetter said, per the newspaper. "One was a tough over-the-top shot that Jameis (Winston) overthrew but there were four other times that DeSean was open and we just missed him. We didn't miss many throws yesterday, but the ones we did miss unfortunately were mostly to DeSean."

Jackson has 40 receptions for 750 yards with four touchdowns in 11 games this season with the Buccaneers, with whom he signed a three-year, $33.5 million contract in 2017. His 18.8 yards per catch is tied for second-best in the league.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Jackson has 588 receptions for 10,237 yards and 53 touchdowns in 152 career contests with the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins and Buccaneers. He was selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.
