Bruce Arians confirms interest in Cleveland Browns coaching job

Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Bruce Arians is interested in coaching the Cleveland Browns.

The retired coach told NFL Network that he is "very serious" about his interest in the job. He also said he would only consider coming out retirement for the Browns opening.

Arians, 66, has a 49-30-1 record as an NFL head coach for the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals. He went into retirement following the 2017 season with the Cardinals. The longtime offensive coordinator entered the NFL ranks in 1989 as a running backs coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. He also served on the staffs of the New Orleans Saints, Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Arians was the Browns' offensive coordinator from 2001 through 2003 before becoming the wide receivers coach for the Steelers in 2004.

The CBS broadcaster told the Canton Repository in November that he would consider returning to the coaching ranks to join the Browns.

The Browns fired former coach Hue Jackson on Oct. 29, before also letting go of offensive coordinator Todd Haley and promoting defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to interim coach.

Williams' Browns are 1-1 since he took over the role. Jackson led the team to a 2-5-1 start following a winless 2017 campaign.
