Carolina Panthers waive RB C.J. Anderson

Nov. 12 (UPI) -- The Carolina Panthers have waived veteran running back C.J. Anderson.

Carolina announced the move on Monday. Anderson had 104 yards on 24 carries in nine games this season. He also had a 24-yard receiving score. Anderson had two carries and lost one yard in the Panthers' 52-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday in Pittsburgh.

The sixth-year ball-carrier played the first five seasons of his career for the Denver Broncos, making the Pro Bowl for his 2014 campaign. Anderson also won a Super Bowl with the Broncos. He signed with the Panthers in May through free agency.

For his career, Anderson has 717 carries for 3,155 yards and 20 scores. He also has 883 yards and five scores on 104 career receptions.

Cameron Artis-Payne will assume backup duties in the Panthers' backfield behind workhorse Christian McCaffrey. The Panthers own the third-best rushing attack in the NFL, averaging 138.4 yards per game. Carolina's mark of 5.1 yards per carry trails only the Broncos and Green Bay Packers.
