Cowboys' Jones, Broncos' Elway back head coaches

Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Denver Broncos general manager John Elway are backing their respective coaches, despite each team having just three wins.

Jones answered questions about coach Jason Garrett on Monday night, following the Cowboys' 28-14 loss to the Tennessee Titans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Cowboys are now 3-5 on the season and sit in third place in the NFC East.

Jones called the loss a "step back" for the Cowboys but said "no" when asked if he would consider making an in-season coaching change. Monday's setback marked the first time this season that the Cowboys have lost back-to-back games.

"I don't get into plays or games impacting confidence on any coach or player, from my standpoint," Jones said.

Elway met with coach Vance Joseph on Monday. The Broncos have a Week 10 bye before battling the Los Angeles Chargers in an AFC West clash.

"We talked this morning about our football team," Joseph told reporters. "But no, it's going to be a normal bye week. We're going to go back and reflect and see what we've done well in all three phases and kind of build off that. What we haven't done well, we're going to go fix. That's your bye week, and our team's competitive. We've all seen that, but we have to finish games better."

Elway went on KDSP-AM on Monday in Denver to talk about Joseph's status. He said that he is "encouraged" this season.

"At this point in time, we're going to stay the course," Elway said. "I think there's enough good things that are going on as far as us and the way that we're playing ... I'm much more encouraged this year than I was last year."

"I think that guys are still playing hard and we are in the games."

Denver trailed the Houston Texans 16-10 at halftime on Sunday, before posting just seven points in the second half, while the Texans added a field goal to secure the victory.

The Broncos are now 3-6 on the season. Denver posted a 5-11 mark in 2017, finishing in the division cellar.

Joseph is now 8-17 in 25 games as the Broncos' head coach. Garrett owns a 70-58 mark in eight-plus seasons coaching the Cowboys.
