Lindley, 29, entered the league as a sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2012 NFL Draft. He appeared in 10 regular season games, completing 51.1 percent of his passes for 1,372 yards, three touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Lindley had six career starts and appeared in a playoff game in 2014 with the Cardinals.

He spent two seasons playing under Browns offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, who was serving as the Cardinals' quarterbacks coach from 2013 to 2016. Lindley also spent time with the San Diego Chargers, New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

Kitchens was promoted to offensive coordinator after the Browns fired Todd Haley on Monday.

Lindley has tutored several NFL Draft prospects in recent years, including Carson Wentz, Mitchell Trubisky and Jared Goff. He served on the San Diego State coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2017.
