Raiders CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie retires from NFL

Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Oakland Raiders cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has retired from the NFL.

The 11-year veteran announced the decision on Tuesday on Instagram. Rodgers-Cromartie, 32, was the No. 16 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2008 NFL Draft.

"Today I retire," Rodgers-Cromartie wrote in the social media post. "Today my NFL journey ends, and I thank God for keeping me all these years. A kid with one kid and no college offers lasted 11 years in the NFL. I played in Super Bowls, Pro Bowls, and did many more in this league. I'm at peace with my decision. Y'all may not understand and that's kool! I wanna thank everyone for their support. Never forget MR. Ooouu himself. Yessuh!"

Rodgers-Cromartie had six tackles, two passes defensed and a forced fumble in seven games this season for the Raiders. He started once. The two-time Pro Bowl selection played the first three seasons of his career for the Cardinals, before being traded to the Eagles in 2011. He also suited up for the Denver Broncos and New York Giants before signing with the Raiders this offseason.

The 6-foot-2, 203-pound defender had 30 career interceptions.

Oakland battles the 49ers at 8:20 p.m. on Thursday in San Francisco.
