Police ID 'person of interest' in death at Giants CB Janoris Jenkins' home

Investigators have identified a "person of interest" in the case involving the death of a man at the residence of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reported that police sources told her that investigators are waiting to interview the "person of interest," pending the results of a post-mortem exam by the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office.

The death of Roosevelt Rene, 25, has been ruled "highly suspicious," Anderson tweeted, citing police sources.

Rene and Jenkins reportedly made rap music together, which the NFL player released under the name, "Rabbit." NJ.com reported that Rene produced music under the name, "Trypps Beatz."

TMZ reported that Jenkins was out of state when the body was discovered. The NFL Network reported that strangulation/suffocation was being investigated as a possible cause of death, and ESPN reported that police are treating it as a homicide investigation.

"The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Fair Lawn Police Department are investigating a death at 14 Van Saun Place in Fair Lawn, New Jersey," the statement read. "The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be provided when it is available and appropriate for release."

Police received a 911 call alerting them of the body, said Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Brian Metzler. According to TMZ, the body was found by a worker at the house.

"We are aware of and monitoring the situation," a spokesperson for the Giants said, per northjersey.com.

"We are monitoring the matter," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

Jenkins is entering his third season with New York. He played his first four seasons with the Rams, who selected him in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
