The New York Jets signed defensive lineman Courtney Upshaw, the team announced Thursday.

Upshaw, who spent the previous two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, came to terms after trying out with the Jets during their mandatory minicamp.

The 6-foot-2, 272-pound Upshaw was a former second-round pick of Baltimore in the 2012 NFL Draft and spent his first four seasons with the Ravens.

Upshaw started 51 of 64 games at linebacker with Baltimore before he was shifted to defensive tackle upon joining the Falcons in 2016.

Upshaw has played in 90 regular-season games (56 starts) and registered seven sacks, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and 215 tackles.

To clear a roster spot for Upshaw, the Jets released defensive lineman Chris Jones. Jones started 22 of 28 games with the New England Patriots in 2013-14 but did not play in 2017.
