Broncos' Chubb prepared to step in for injured Ray

Denver Broncos rookie Bradley Chubb said he is willing to accept a larger role as fellow linebacker Shane Ray heads for another round of wrist surgery.

Chubb, who was the fifth overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, could be in line to start opposite All-Pro linebacker Von Miller.

"I know Shane is going to do whatever it takes to get back as fast as he can and when he gets back, we're going to definitely need him," the 21-year-old Chubb said, via the team website. "If that causes me to have to step up or ... into a certain role, I'll be prepared."

Chubb, who reportedly spent most of organized team activities with the second team, registered 10 sacks in each of his last two seasons at North Carolina State.

"When the game is so much faster by being with the vets and being with the guys who have been doing it for eight to 10 years, you have to have a sense of urgency," the 6-foot-4, 259-pound Chubb said. "When I take reps with the ones, I feel like that helps me out learning a little bit better. There's no, 'Hey, what do I (have) on this play?' Because those guys, they expect me to know it."

Ray posted on his Instagram account last week that he was dealing with complications from the previous surgery and did not re-injure his wrist.

The injury limited Ray to eight games in 2017. He dislocated the wrist in preseason and started the year on injured reserve.

The 25-year-old Ray was activated at the end of October but went back on injured reserve in December. He had only one sack after collecting 12 over his first two seasons.
