Patriots' Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski not expected to attend OTAs

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski attended last week's mandatory three-day minicamp, but they are not expected to show up for volunteer workouts this week.

The Patriots' final four days of voluntary OTAs are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week, and Brady and Gronkowski will not attend any of them, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday. This week's OTAs include a field trip.

The two players also skipped the previous voluntary portion of the OTAs.

Brady and Gronkowski will not appear at camp again until July 26, the day before training camp begins. Attendance for that is mandatory.

Brady has two years remaining on his current deal, which will earn him $14 million in base salary in 2018, but multiple media reports indicate he is seeking a new contract.

Gronkowski also has two years left on his contract, and will get $8 million in 2018 under that deal, according to multiple reports. The Patriots are working to restructure his current deal.

Gronkowski recently dismissed rumors of being the subject of a potential trade by the Patriots.

"It just shows how much fake news is out there. Hashtag fake news," Gronkowski said on Saturday, via CBS Boston. "That's all I know. It's true. It exists. See it all the time about me."

A rumor gained steam on Friday after former Boston Herald reporter Adam Kurkjian tweeted that head coach Bill Belichick wanted to trade Gronkowski to either the Tennessee Titans or San Francisco 49ers. Kurkjian added that Belichick met with owner Robert Kraft before Brady reportedly threatened to retire if Gronkowski was traded away.

"What a nice guy," the 29-year-old Gronkowski joked of Brady. "But I haven't talked to him. I didn't even know about it until last night. Fake news."
