Steven Jackson on best Rams RB of all-time: 'I think it's me'

Steven Jackson had quite the career with the then-St. Louis Rams, so much so that he is the franchise's all-time rushing leader.

So, in Jackson's mind, it's only natural to proclaim himself as the best among a long line of outstanding Rams running backs.

"Sometimes, I talk to current fans here (in Los Angeles) and there's an argument of who's the greatest running back to be a Ram," Jackson told the Los Angeles Times. "I think it's me. Look at the record book. Everybody has their pick."

Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson and Marshall Faulk might have a bone to pick with Jackson. Reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year Todd Gurley, who had a league-best 19 touchdowns in 2017, will hope to someday.

"I'm a history freak," Jackson said. "And when it comes to the Rams' organization, if there's one thing we do, we pick running backs well."

Jackson was a three-time Pro Bowl selection during his 12-year career, which also included stints with the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots. The 34-year-old rushed for 10,138 yards and 56 touchdowns and reeled in 407 passes for 3,324 yards and eight scores during his nine seasons with the Rams, who selected him with the 24th overall pick of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Dickerson excelled with the Rams during their previous stint in Los Angeles, playing with the club for four full seasons after being selected with the second overall pick of the 1983 NFL Draft. He set the rookie single-season record for rushing yards with 1,808 in 1983 and the overall single-season rushing record with 2,105 yards in 1984, both of which still stand.

Dickerson was traded to the Indianapolis Colts as part of a blockbuster three-team deal early in the 1987 season. The six-time Pro Bowler totaled 13,259 rushing yards and 90 touchdowns in his 11 seasons with the Rams, Colts, Oakland Raiders and Falcons.

Faulk, who is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, began his career with the Colts before playing seven seasons with the Rams. A pivotal member of the "Greatest Show on Turf," the versatile Faulk rushed for 12,279 yards with 100 touchdowns and also had 767 receptions for 6,875 yards and 36 scores.
