The New York Jets have signed defensive lineman Nathan Shepherd to a four-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reported on Friday.

Shepherd is the fourth of the Jets' six 2018 picks to come to terms, leaving first-round quarterback Sam Darnold and fourth-round tight end Chris Herndon as the team's last unsigned draftees.

The 25-year-old Shepherd grew up in Canada and played linebacker at Simon Fraser University, but dropped out to go to work because he couldn't afford the tuition.

Then, he returned to school at Fort Hays State in 2015 and moved to the defensive line after bulking up to 315 pounds.

The unheralded Shepherd impressed scouts at the Senior Bowl.
