Even though Brian Flores has taken on many of the responsibilities of the New England Patriots' defensive coordinator job, his actual title remains linebackers coach.

That does not seem to bother Flores.

"I've never been big on titles," Flores said, according to the Providence Journal. "I'm here to work. I'm here to help this team win any way I can. I think I've always said that in some form or fashion. Yeah, if they want me to get water I'll get water. If that's the role you need to help us win then that's what I'll do. ... This is a team sport, so everyone has different roles ... and those roles change throughout the year.

"It's ever changing. So, for me personally, whatever role I'm in with this team I'm going to do it to the best of my ability and try to do everything I can to help us win."

Flores was given additional duties after defensive coordinator Matt Patricia left to become head coach of the Detroit Lions.

The Patriots have done this in the past with assistant coaches, giving them the duties of a coordinator but not the job title that comes with it. That includes Patricia and Bill O'Brien, who is currently the Houston Texans' head coach.

Flores said he will have "personal imprint" in running the defense but head coach Bill Belichick will continue to maintain some control of the unit.

"We're going to continue to play defense like we have for the past 18 seasons," Flores said.
