New York Giants coach Pat Shurmur wants safety Landon Collins to stop speaking publicly about teammate Ereck Flowers' situation with the team.

Collins recently told WFAN that Flowers, a tackle, has avoided the Giants' offseason program because he is upset that the team signed free agent tackle Nate Solder. The move means that Flowers is being shifted from left tackle to right tackle.

"That's not for Landon to talk about," Shurmur said, via the New York Daily News. "I don't think our players should be talking about another players' situation."

Shurmur added that Flowers has kept in touch with the Giants.

"We've been in contact with Ereck. I heard he's in good shape," Shurmur said. "I can't wait for him to be here. Like I said, there were some things he did last year that were really good. I look forward to him being here at some point and working with him."

Collins told WFAN on May 4 that Flowers has not returned his texts, but his cousin -- a friend of the lineman -- relayed the news that Flowers is in Miami and remains miffed by the team's long-range plans for him.

"He's just unhappy that they picked up (Solder)," Collins said. "That's it."

New York signed Solder, the former New England Patriot, to a four-year contract worth $62 million. Giants general manager Dave Gettleman said at the time of Solder's signing that Shurmur told Flowers of the team's plan for him and that "Ereck was fine on the phone."

Flowers has started 46 games for the Giants since being selected with the ninth overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft. New York reportedly was willing to deal Flowers during the NFL Draft but could not find a trade partner.
