Atlanta Falcons may use Calvin Ridley as kick returner

The Atlanta Falcons used first-round draft pick Calvin Ridley in a variety of ways Saturday during the team's rookie minicamp.

Despite a reduced number of snaps, Ridley played in the slot as well as the outside at wide receiver, and he returned kickoffs and punts.

"So, we got a chance to see him [do] a variety of things, and that will continue through the OTAs," Falcons coach Dan Quinn told the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Ridley was taken by Atlanta with the No. 26 overall pick in the draft last month but he is the team's only draft pick still unsigned.

"The first impression was that I recognized the competitor that he was because he wanted every rep," Quinn said. "That's a good thing. He wanted to go for it, but today we were trying to feature some of the guys that we wanted to take a look at. He didn't get as many reps today and I know there was some disappointment on his end."

The Falcons are looking for a kickoff and punt returner after losing Andre Roberts, who left to sign a free-agent deal with the New York Jets.

Ridley has competition as Justin Hardy, Marvin Hall and Reggie Davis are also considered candidates to return kicks.
