The New Orleans Saints are planning to sign former Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

Barrett was expected to try out for the Saints but instead will sign a three-year minimum deal for an undrafted free agent, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, which confirmed the NFL Network's initial report of the signing.

The Saints already have a pair of backups behind starting quarterback Drew Brees in Tom Savage and Taysom Hill.

Barrett was part of a three-QB mix at Ohio State that included both Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones.

A dual threat who appeared in all 14 games last season with the Buckeyes, Barrett guided the team to a 12-2 mark while registering career highs in touchdown passes (35) and yards (3,053) while throwing only nine interceptions.

Barrett also rushed for 798 yards and 12 touchdowns, the third time in four seasons he amassed double-digit rushing scores.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Barrett appeared in 50 games over his four seasons, throwing for 9,434 yards and 104 touchdowns against 30 interceptions while rushing for 3,263 yards and 43 scores.
