Minnesota Vikings cornerback Terence Newman told reporters on Tuesday that he has just one more season left in the tank.

"I think this will be my last year no matter what happens," Newman said, via the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Newman, who will celebrate his 40th birthday in September, will be the oldest active defensive player in the league.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection in 2007 and 2009, Newman is the league's active leader in interceptions (42). He also has 876 tackles, eight forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries in 221 career games with the Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and Vikings since being selected by Dallas with the fifth overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft.

"After 15 years, I've soaked as much as I can in," he said. "It's been a heck of a ride. I understand when it's time for me. I'm not going to put an onus on doing anything special."

Newman will return for his 16th NFL season and fourth with the Vikings. He totaled 25 tackles, one interception and five pass deflections in 2017, when he played in all 16 games and made seven starts.
