The Tampa (Fla.) Police Department has stopped investigating a Christmas Eve crash involving a vehicle registered to Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Police declared the case "inactive" due to the fact no evidence or witnesses are available to place the driver behind at the wheel, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

According to the police report, the driver was Therrian Fontenot, a former teammate of Jackson with the Philadelphia Eagles. Fontenot spent six months in jail in 2015 after pleading no contest to a burglary of a former teammate's home, the newspaper reported.

A spokesperson for Jackson said at the time of the incident that a friend of Jackson's borrowed the car "without his knowledge" while Jackson was out of town.

Per the police report, police found 6.3 grams of marijuana and two .38-caliber hollow-point bullets during a search of Jackson's abandoned Chevy Silverado.

"None of what was in the car was his, obviously," Jackson's spokesperson, Denise White, said in late December. "He's dealing with the person that was using it without his knowledge privately. The incident is being handled."

After being contacted by authorities, Jackson told police that he was not operating the vehicle at the time of the crash and eventually admitted that his friend was the driver, the police report said.

However, Jackson at first attempted to report the car as stolen, per the police report, and did "not facilitate the driver coming forward."

The 31-year-old Jackson had 50 catches for 668 yards and three touchdowns in his first season with the Buccaneers after signing a three-year, $33.5 million deal last March.
