One day after hiring a new defensive line coach, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers jettisoned one of the unit's players.

The Buccaneers released veteran defensive tackle Chris Baker after one season, the team announced Tuesday.

Baker, 31, appeared in 15 games, making 14 starts, with Tampa Bay last season. He registered 33 tackles with 0.5 sacks and two passes defensed.

If Baker had remained on the team's roster next month, $3 million of his $4.875 million salary would have been guaranteed.

Before signing with the Buccaneers, Baker spent the previous five seasons with the Washington Redskins, racking up a career-high 6.0 sacks in 2015.

In seven seasons with Denver, Miami, the Redskins and Bucs, Baker recorded 121 tackles and 12.0 sacks while appearing in 93 games, including 56 starts.

Brentson Buckner was hired as Tampa Bay's defensive line coach on Monday. He will be officially introduced to the media on Wednesday afternoon.
