Reports: Bears release LB Freeman

The Chicago Bears released linebacker Jerrell Freeman, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday.

Freeman was suspended 10 games last season following a second violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. He missed four games in 2016 on the heels of the first violation, but still finished with a team-high 110 tackles.

The Bears will save $3.5 million in cap space by releasing Freeman, according to Spotrac.

Freeman was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a torn pectoral muscle in the season opener versus the Atlanta Falcons.

The 31-year-old Freeman signed a three-year, $12 million deal with the Bears in 2016 after playing four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
