Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is scheduled to complete the requirements for a medical degree during this offseason, and he wants the name on his jersey to reflect the achievement, according to the Kansas City Star.

While some NFL players have things such as "Jr." or "III" as part of the name on the back of their jerseys, Duvernay-Tardif wants his jersey to read, "Duvernay-Tardif M.D."

"I want to put Duvernay-Tardif M.D. on my jersey," he told the Star. "I've already started a conversation with the league office and they say that anything is possible."

This is not the first time that Duvernay-Tardif mentioned this idea.

Last year, he wrote in the Players' Tribune, "I'm hoping to become the first NFL player to step on the field with an M.D. in my back pocket -- and maybe on the back of my jersey."

It remains to be seen whether the NFL will approve Duvernay-Tardif's request.

Duvernay-Tardif, who turned 27 on Feb. 11, signed a five-year, $41.25 million contract extension with the Chiefs in February 2017. He has been a starter each of the past three seasons, and played in 11 games in 2017.
