Eagles' Carson Wentz insists he won't change how he plays

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has penciled in his return for the 2018 season opener and is adamant that he won't change how he plays after tearing the ACL and LCL in his left knee.

"That is definitely my goal," Wentz said during a Tuesday radio appearance on Sports Radio 94WIP, via NJ.com. "Timetables and all those things are always such a fluid thing. Obviously can't come out and make a declaration on anything, but my goal is to be playing in Week 1."

Wentz sustained the injury in a 43-35 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Dec. 10, although he is unsure if it happened on his touchdown run that was negated by a penalty. The 25-year-old was sandwiched between Rams linebacker Mark Barron and defensive end Morgan Fox at the goal line.

"I definitely won't change, so to speak," Wentz said. "That has what made me successful this last season and my whole career. It is something I've learned since coming into the league, how to protect myself. I am not going to let this change me."

Wentz, who was an NFL MVP candidate prior to the injury, has shed the crutches and was throwing on the field prior to Super Bowl LII. His backup, Nick Foles, led the Eagles to a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in that game.

Wentz threw for 33 touchdowns this year to move past Sonny Jurgensen for the most in a single season in franchise history, a record that stood since 1961. Wentz completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 3,296 yards with just seven interceptions in 13 games in 2017.

For his two-year career, he has 49 touchdown passes and 21 interceptions.
