Cardinals' Bidwell: 'The quarterback thing will come'

Arizona Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell stressed the importance of finding a quarterback on Tuesday, one day after signing general manager Steve Keim to a contract extension.

"We've got the GM in place, and I really like our head coach (Steve Wilks) and everything I've seen from him so far," Bidwill said Tuesday morning during an appearance on 98.7, Arizona's Sports Station.

"The quarterback thing will come. I don't want to sound like we're being cavalier about it but we've got to wait for free agency to start to see who is out there. I know we're going to be aggressive, we're going to have a plan."

Those wheels presumably were set in motion after Carson Palmer announced his retirement last month after 15 seasons in the NFL. The 38-year-old Palmer was named to the Pro Bowl three times, but his 2017 season was cut short by a broken arm that limited him to seven games.

Bidwell said the team also will look at potential trades as well as the upcoming NFL Draft to strengthen the position.

Matt Barkley, Blaine Gabbert and Drew Stanton are the lone quarterbacks on the roster of the Cardinals, who finished with an 8-8 mark last season.

Gabbert completed 95 of 171 passes for 1,086 yards last season with six touchdowns and six interceptions.

Stanton went 79 of 159 for 894 yards in 2017 with six touchdowns and five interceptions.
