Indianapolis Colts establish scholarship fund in Edwin Jackson's memory

The Indianapolis Colts have established a scholarship fund to honor linebacker Edwin Jackson, who was killed in a traffic accident on Feb. 4.

Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay announced Monday a $25,000 gift for the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a qualified student applicant. The Colts will work with the Jackson family to establish the scholarship and determine its guidelines.

"Edwin was such a wonderful young man and was beloved by his family and friends across the country, especially by his Colts family here in Indianapolis," Irsay said in a statement. "We are all better people for having known him, and we already miss him so much.

"This scholarship will honor Edwin's memory and his determination, work ethic and character. My family and the entire Colts organization are proud to have been associated with Edwin, and we are honored to help continue his legacy in the future."

Jackson and his Uber driver, Jeffrey Monroe, were killed when hit by a drunk driver.

Jackson's funeral was Monday in Atlanta.

Jackson started in eight games with the Colts in 2016. He was placed on injured reserve by the Colts in September 2017.
