Carolina Panthers center Ryan Kalil plans to retire at the conclusion of the 2018 season. "This is going to be the last one for me," Kalil said on Tuesday in a phone interview with the Charlotte Observer.
Kalil, who will turn 33 in March, has missed 18 games over the last two seasons while being plagued by neck and shoulder injuries.
"I'm of the mindset to try to keep my medical stuff as private as humanly possible," the five-time Pro Bowl selection told the newspaper. "Thus the vagueness that you get and the jokes that accompany it with me waking up with a stiff neck and things like that."
Kalil is slated to receive $4.5 million in base salary next season with a cap hit of more than $9 million. He has played his entire NFL career with Carolina since being selected by the Panthers with the 59th overall pick in the 2007 draft.
