Chargers GM promises to fix kicking issues

The Los Angeles Chargers essentially kicked themselves in the pants with their kicking game this past season, much to the chagrin of general manager Tom Telesco.

Addressing the kicking game has been a point of emphasis for the Chargers, who used four different full-time placekickers -- Younghoe Koo, Nick Novak, Travis Coons and Nick Rose -- in 2017 and connected on an NFL-worst 67 percent of their field-goal attempts.

"We'll get that fixed," Telesco said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "That was largely my fault. We just didn't do a very good job managing that situation."

The Chargers limped out to an 0-4 start due in part to miscues in the kicking game. Koo saw his game-tying field goal blocked in the season opener against the Denver Broncos and misfired on a game-winning attempt versus the Miami Dolphins the following week to kickstart the team's woes.

Los Angeles shuffled kickers in and out before Rose finished the season. He was joined on the offseason roster by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round pick Roberto Aguayo.

Aguayo fizzled with the Buccaneers, making just 22 of 31 field-goal attempts -- including just 4 of 10 on attempts between 40-49 yards -- during his rookie season.

Aguayo latched on with the Chicago Bears, but was released prior to the start of the 2017 season. He finished the year on the practice squad of the Carolina Panthers.
