Ben Roethlisberger stands 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, which one would think would make him a strong candidate to run quarterback sneaks in short-yardage situations.

Roethlisberger, however, said on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh on Tuesday that quarterback sneaks just aren't preferred by Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin. In addition, the 35-year-old said he doesn't have the "freedom to check to a quarterback sneak because we don't have that call if we're not in the huddle."

Pittsburgh failed to convert a pair of fourth-and-1 situations during Sunday's 45-42 divisional-round loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Roethlisberger also said that Tomlin laughs when he lobbies to run the quarterback sneak.

"I truly have never said I don't want to run it," Roethlisberger said. "I have asked for it. I am fine with it. If they want to call it, I'm all for it."

Tomlin took a different view when the topic of quarterback sneaks was brought up at his season-ending conference on Tuesday.

"We make decisions that we deem appropriate in circumstances," Tomlin said. "Whether we choose to call it at a specific moment is up for debate. To suggest there's a resistance to it, the concept, I'm not willing to say that."
