Kansas City Chiefs CB Darrelle Revis not ready to retire

Veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis did not begin his 11th season until late November and is hoping to start his 12th season significantly earlier.

Revis told ESPN on Monday that he felt he played well enough to continue his playing career next season.

The material I put on (videotape) from the little time I had, not going through training camp and being here for the installs, I was OK," Revis said. "I wasn't great or my best ever. No way. But at the same time, for what I came in here and was asked to do, for the most part I'm happy with it."

Revis signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 23 and appeared in five regular-season games, along with the 22-21 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the wild card round on Jan. 6. He recorded 11 combined tackles in the regular season, along with two passes defended.

The Chiefs were 28th in the league in pass defense at 253.8 when Revis signed. They finished a 10-6 regular season ranked 29th at 247 yards per contest.

Revis, who turns 33 in July, was released by the Jets last offseason; no teams were interested in his services until Kansas City signed him.

Revis has one more season left on his contract at $10 million, which might be viewed as a steep price for a veteran cornerback. The Chiefs, however, could view him as a mentor for talented but at times volatile cornerback Marcus Peters, who was suspended one game during the regular season.

If the Chiefs do not retain Revis, he told ESPN he plans on participating in offseason practice and training camp next season.

"I was out for almost a whole year," he said. "You have to weigh those types of things in. No player can come in and just make plays being out for a year."

Since entering the league in 2007 as the Jets' first-round pick, Revis has 29 interceptions for 466 yards and three touchdowns in 145 regular-season games with the Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Kansas City.

Revis' career peaked in 2009, when he intercepted six passes and recorded an NFL-most 31 passes defended, helping the Jets reach the first of two straight AFC championship games under coach Rex Ryan.

Revis also has three interceptions in 10 postseason games and won a Super Bowl title with New England in 2015.

Other than last season and 2012, when he tore his ACL in the second game with the Jets, Revis has played in at least 14 games in every season.
