Matt Nagy was introduced as the Chicago Bears head coach on Tuesday, and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio could be re-signed as soon as Wednesday, according to multiple reports Tuesday night.
After dominoes began falling in the coaching ranks, the biggest being the Green Bay Packers filling their coordinator opening with ex-Browns coach Mike Pettine, the likelihood of Fangio returning improved drastically.
"We all are aware of that situation and that's a very important hire for me, but there's a lot of things that go into that decision," the offensive-minded Nagy said, via the Chicago Tribune, about filling his defensive coordinator position. "Vic and I have talked. We understand the situation. ... We're going to attack that full steam ahead and we're going to make a clear decision about what's best for Vic and what's best for this organization."
Fangio was a candidate for the Bears head coach position.
"You know I have a ton of respect for Vic, and we're talking to Vic right now," Bears general manager Ryan Pace said, via the Chicago Tribune. "We thought, let this play out. Matt's just getting his feet set and after that his first priority is going to be our existing staff and then attacking the coaching candidates."
