New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. told embattled teammate Eli Apple over Twitter that he should not "waste (your) time" responding to critics on social media.

Apple struggled mightily during his second season with the Giants, concluding the campaign with a one-game suspension in the finale.

The 22-year-old Apple tweeted the following at 9:01 p.m. (ET) on Sunday:

"I'd rather be hated than loved cause the love was always fake keep that hate coming tho y'all gonna see the real me this yr"

Apple's tweet ignited hundreds of responses, prompting the cornerback to answer some of those comments.

Beckham did his best to steer Apple in what he deems the right direction, away from social media spats.

"Brooooo I kno it feels good to tell these ppl off , trust me I would love nothin more than to do the same," the 25-year-old Beckham tweeted at 12:49 a.m. "But don't waste ur time on these ppl, half the ppl don't even have real accounts. Stop bro, ur better than that. U weren't... and I wasn't... good enough this year.

"Just hear me out... it's really not worth it. Please bro, this what they want.... back to the drawin board . Let's get it !"

Apple responded to Beckham, "I'm chillin I promise."

After a promising rookie season, Apple was inactive for a four-game stretch in 2017 and was involved in a feud with teammate Landon Collins that saw the star safety refer to Apple as "a cancer" during a radio interview.

The Giants suspended Apple for their season finale against the Washington Redskins, citing "a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team."

While immensely productive in terms of receptions and touchdowns, Beckham's behavior on and off the field has been widely criticized throughout his career.

Beckham's maturity has been called into question as recently as this season when he pretended to relieve himself like a dog while celebrating a touchdown during a Week 3 loss in Philadelphia.

During his career with the Giants, Beckham also has had "romantic" encounters with a kicking net, a high-profile feud with then-Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman as well as punching a hole in the wall outside the locker room in Green Bay following last year's playoff loss to the Packers.
