Jon Gruden: Oakland Raiders to chase coach with lucrative offer

The Oakland Raiders are expected to pursue former Super Bowl-winning coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden with a lucrative offer that could include an ownership stake in the team, multiple outlets reported Sunday.

The Raiders would be willing to move on from third-year coach Jack Del Rio should the 54-year-old Gruden be available, per reports. The team gave Del Rio a four-year contract extension throughout 2020 in the offseason.

Gruden reportedly has reached out to assistants about putting a possible staff together, including Rich Gannon as quarterbacks coach.

Reports surfaced that Raiders owner Mark Davis has grown increasingly frustrated during the team's 6-9 season, one year removed from the club's postseason run. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Davis has "something big planned" before the Raiders move to Las Vegas during the 2019 offseason.

Gruden coached the Raiders from 1998-2001 and compiled a 38-26 record. He won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2002 season.

Gruden, who has a 95-81 record in 11 seasons as an NFL coach, has been out of coaching since 2008.
