Dec. 29 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Browns have promoted fullback Marquez Williams from the practice squad to the active roster.
Cleveland waived defensive back B.W. Webb. The Browns announced the moves on Friday.
Williams, 23, was a seventh-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Miami product joined the Browns' practice squad on Dec. 23. The 5-foot-10, 260-pound fullback will wear No. 42 for the Browns.
"This guy has the chance to perform really well," Browns running backs coach Kirby Wilson told reporters Thursday.
"He is a guy that we liked coming out of college. We had a high opinion of him. He got drafted by another club. We followed his progress or lack of because he got injured during the preseason. We think a lot of him, and we are excited he gets the opportunity to play on Sunday. I think you guys will like what he brings to the table."
Wilson also said the Browns "think" Williams will be able to contribute in some ways on Sunday.
Webb, 27, entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2013 NFL Draft. The 5-foot-10, 184-pound defensive back joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014 and played for the Tennessee Titans in 2015. He suited up for 14 games last season with the New Orleans Saints. Webb joined the Browns' active roster in Week 16, but was inactive for the team's 20-3 loss to the Chicago Bears.
The William & Mary product has 67 combined tackles, 14 passes defensed and two interceptions in 49 career appearances in the NFL. He has nine starts during his five-year NFL tenure.
The Browns face the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. Sunday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
